{"id":19115,"date":"2017-01-14T13:27:03","date_gmt":"2017-01-14T21:27:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/medicalfitnessnetwork.org\/public\/?page_id=19115"},"modified":"2020-05-18T09:41:52","modified_gmt":"2020-05-18T16:41:52","slug":"medical-fitness-network-founder-lisa-dougherty-finalist-white-house-champion-change","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/medfitnetwork.org\/public\/medical-fitness-network-founder-lisa-dougherty-finalist-white-house-champion-change\/","title":{"rendered":"Medical Fitness Network Founder, Lisa Dougherty, is Finalist for the White House Champion of Change"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><strong>Press Release<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p><strong>Medical Fitness Network Founder, Lisa Dougherty, is Finalist for the White House Champion of Change<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(May 26, 2016) Orange County, CA.<\/strong> \u2013\u201c<em>Makers and builders and doers \u2013 of all ages and backgrounds \u2013 have pushed our country forward, developing creative solutions to important challenges and proving that ordinary Americans are capable of achieving the extraordinary when they have access to the resources they need<\/em>\u201d \u2013 <strong>President Obama, National Week of Making Proclamation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It was announced today that <a href=\"http:\/\/weekofmaking.org\/profile\/lisa-dougherty\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lisa Dougherty<\/a>, founder of the Medical Fitness Network is a finalist for\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/blog\/2016\/05\/04\/support-nation-makers-and-nominate-white-house-champion-change\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>White House Champion of Change for Making<\/strong><\/a> for\u00a0the Medical Fitness Network project. <\/p>\n<p>Ten winners will be selected by the Executive Office of the President to go to the White House during the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/weekofmaking.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Week of Making<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0(June 17-23, 2016), which celebrates\u00a0leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs, and educators who work daily to make a difference within their local communities across the country.<\/p>\n<p>The Medical Fitness Network donates its services as a database management company to medical &amp; health organizations who do not offer resources to find fitness and allied healthcare professionals who offer services for those with chronic diseases, medical conditions or who need pre &amp; post natal care. \u00a0It also connects trainers and facilities with clients who need their services that may not know about them otherwise.<\/p>\n<p>The National Arthritis Foundation, the largest nonprofit medical organization in the U.S. and a growing list of other medical health organizations, such as the Alzheimer&#8217;s Research &amp; Prevention Foundation, American Breast Cancer Foundation, MS Fitness Challenge, and the National Osteoporosis Foundation, ZERO Cancer are supported by the MFN project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are 80 million baby boomers that make up about 30% of our nation. As this population ages, we are seeing a significant increase in obesity, chronic disease &amp; individuals with multiple medical conditions. According to the (CDC), 80% of older adults have one chronic medical condition, &amp; 50% have 2 or more. Public health efforts to promote health &amp; functional independence are critical strategies in helping older adults stay healthy &amp; live independently.
