{"id":20402,"date":"2017-06-09T13:37:25","date_gmt":"2017-06-09T20:37:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/medicalfitnessnetwork.org\/public\/?p=20402"},"modified":"2017-06-07T13:44:46","modified_gmt":"2017-06-07T20:44:46","slug":"training-older-adult-client-key-corrective-exercise-patterns-shoulders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medfitnetwork.org\/public\/all-mfn\/training-older-adult-client-key-corrective-exercise-patterns-shoulders\/","title":{"rendered":"Training the Older Adult Client: Key Corrective Exercise Patterns \u2013 The Shoulders"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>Part III: Key Corrective Exercise Patterns \u2013 The Shoulders<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>As we discussed in Part <a href=\"https:\/\/medfitnetwork.org\/public\/all-mfn\/3-keys-improving-effectiveness-training-older-adult-client\/\">I<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/medfitnetwork.org\/public\/all-mfn\/training-older-adult-client-key-corrective-exercise-patterns-hips\/\">II<\/a> of this series, we recently completed our very first full 3-day training certification: the <em><u>Integrative Corrective Exercise Instructor\u2122<\/u><\/em>\u00a0certificate program.<\/p>\n<p>In the 3-day intensive <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fitnesseducationseminars.com\/icei\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><u>Integrative Corrective Exercise Instructor<\/u><\/em><\/a><em><u>\u2122<\/u><\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fitnesseducationseminars.com\/icei\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u00a0<\/a><\/strong>certificate program \u2013 designed specifically for those of you that work with older clients like we do in our clinic in Chicago, we covered the key concepts and principles of training older clients.<\/p>\n<p>There are three keys we have found to be fundamental in helping improve the effectiveness of our training programs and helping our older clients successfully work towards accomplishing their health and fitness goals. These 3 concepts form the foundation of our <strong><em>Integrative Movement System Corrective Exercise Strategy\u2122<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>1. Awareness<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The most important component to our corrective exercise program is to help increase our client\u2019s awareness of their current habits and educate them on how to develop more optimal posture and movement habits.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>2. Attention-to-detail<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The next most important component is to bring attention-to-detail or paying attention to the simple things that can be often over-looked. Essentially these are the simple things that ultimately can have a dramatic impact upon your older client\u2019s overall success.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>3. Appropriate Progressions<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Use patterns that give your older clients the best opportunity for success. \u00a0There is nothing wrong with pushing your client\u2026as long as they\u2019ve \u2018<em>earned-the-right\u2019<\/em> or been progressed appropriately to successfully perform the higher-level intensity or patterns.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/600kGjh-Nno\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In the previous video we discussed how to implement these concepts into one of our go-to corrective exercise patterns for improving glute function and hip mobility.
