Press Release

Genome Magazine Announces Partnership with Medical Fitness Network to Provide Fitness and Allied Healthcare Provider Resource

genome-issue(February 9, 2016) Plano, TX.  Genome magazine has partnered with the Medical Fitness Network (MFN) – a national referral service for those with a chronic illness or who are pre/postnatal – to connect its readers to the fitness or allied healthcare professional who will best fit their needs. The MFN strives to improve the quality of life for those with chronic medical conditions by connecting them to qualified fitness and healthcare providers, bringing a holistic approach to the care of chronic illnesses.

Since its launch in April 2014, Genome has garnered high praise for its ability to convey complex scientific information in a welcoming and accessible manner. Genome acts as an information bridge, bringing relevant insight and knowledge to patients, families, and caregivers on every aspect of personalized medicine so that they may be better equipped to have meaningful discussions with their healthcare teams. “When patients fully understand how personalized medicine can transform the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of a variety of conditions, they will be able to advocate for the targeted treatment they deserve,” said Susan McClure, publisher of Genome.

Education and awareness are key elements in the fight against debilitating disease. While doctors often prescribe diet and exercise as an extension of their treatment, the patient is often left to their own devices to determine how best to fill these doctor’s orders. The patient can search online for diet plans and providers, but it can be a daunting task to find the right solution.

“As a cancer survivor, I am all too familiar with the overwhelming ‘loss of self’ that can occur as a result of grueling medical treatments,” said McClure. “What the MFN provides is an opportunity for people to improve their wellbeing despite their diagnosis through diet, exercise, and rehabilitation programs that are tailored just for them.”

Genome helps consumers make informed health decisions by providing a resource for education, and the MFN provides specialized fitness and healthcare providers who have training in the treatment of medical conditions.

“Our team at the Medical Fitness Network strives to connect the community to qualified health and fitness professionals to maximize wellness and quality of life,” said MFN founder Lisa Dougherty. “We’re dedicated to improving the quality of life for those with chronic illness, and are thrilled to partner with the well respected Genome magazine to help support those in need of medical health alternatives.”\
