A Personal Essay About Diabetes Complications

I’ve lived with type 1 diabetes for forty-four years. In a good way, I have little to show for it. While diabetes tends to be progressive for most people, I have no major complications. No heart disease, amputations, kidney disease or eye disease. I have a few conditions that may have been brought on a bit sooner by having diabetes.

Here’s a bit of my story regarding complications.

What’s most important is to take care of your diabetes, and to take care of yourself. Those times you feel a bit frustrated or down, give yourself a short break, and then get back to your healthy routine. It will give you a lift immediately and pay off over time.
