How does your business help those with chronic disease/medical conditions or who need pre & postnatal care?

All of the Yamuna work assists people in the full assessment of their specific problems. Then very detailed routines are given to help people retrain and improve their bodies. We are successful in working with chronic back problems, all joint problems, M.S., stroke rehabilitation, TMJ, foot problems, and we have a full pre and post-natal program for women.

What makes your facility different from other medically oriented facilities?

What makes us different is that all the work is original work developed by Yamuna Zake. It is mainly focused on education. We try to simplify the body so each client can fully understand what is going on and why the specific work we give them makes sense. People just don’t go through the exercises. They gain a full understanding of their problems and how to work to improve and maintain themselves

What are the services you provide?

Our business offers classes and privates which focus on helping people find ways to correct their problems themselves. For example: February is the month for rebuilding healthy foot function. We offer classes and free online education and a newsletter that allows people to learn and be more proactive.

How long has your facility been in business?

37 years

Does your business support any community activities in your area and if so, what are they and why these?

Each month we at YAMUNA® have a special focus; ie. The feet or hips or spine. All of our practitioners around the world offer specialty classes for their communities with this specific monthly focus.

What is a favorite memory of yours working with someone who had a health challenge or disability?

I had a client who had extreme ankylosing spondylitis. He was 40 years old and he was completely bent over at the waist. He was calcified in this position. His doctor told him before he reached 50 his shoulders, elbows and hands would become frozen, too.  He could not raise his arms or move his head or neck in any position. We worked together weekly for 3-4 years. After 2 months he was off pain medications. After 6 months he was standing about 50% taller. At about a year he was able to begin to make small movements of his head and neck. His range of motion of his arms and shoulders improved. He had been operated on when he was 15 and 16 having 2 hip replacements. His leg movements and walking also improved. From working with him, I learned that you ignore future prognosis of a disease. You always look at what a person is capable of achieving.

What would you like to see change/develop/emerge in the future of healthcare and the fitness industry?

I would like to see more education that helps to empower people in self-care. Today the body is outsourced rather than offering the needed education to help people become pro-active in their own wellness. People need logical anatomically correct education and simple ways to be able to be successful themselves.

And what are you doing to make this happen?

We have practitioners certified in the Yamuna® education in over 38 countries. We have a strong Facebook presence where we offer educational information and pro-active videos to help people understand and be able to work on themselves. We have a monthly newsletter that offers education and useful information and routines for self-help. We are about to begin a women’s blog titled, What Women do Not Talk About With Each Other, to help women be able to go through all phases of life with the practical information they need to not suffer through the various hormonal changes. We are working on a Yamuna® Channel so that people will have access to all the Yamuna® education worldwide.

Does your business have a motto, if so, what is it?

Look for the personal best in each person. Don’t get stuck in the name calling and prognosis of various illnesses. See what a person is capable of achieving and support them in getting there.
