I wrote this post two years ago and still have people with diabetes write to tell me how much it has meant to them. How they printed it off and showed it to their family and friends. How people seemed to finally understand the difficulty of what they live with.
The article is based on a perfectly true story: my own mother didn’t really understand what it’s like for me to manage my blood sugar 24/7, seven days a week. Not until I showed her the screen of my continuous glucose monitor and she saw my every-five-minute blood sugars. When I said, “Every day and every night I have to stay between the red and yellow lines,” she got it, as now have thousands of others. I hope this helps you and those who love you.
