How did you hear about MFN? Facebook
How do you or your business help those with chronic disease/medical conditions or who need pre & postnatal care?
We provide comprehensive assessment and exercise programming primarily focused on the musculoskeletal system. No matter what diagnosed disease and goal an individual may have (and who has been medically cleared for exercise) the vehicle through which exercise is used to achieve that goal (e.g. weight-loss, strength, mobility) is the muscle system. Therefore, we ensure that the individual has control over the use of the muscle system to engage in whatever physical activity they would like to try and enjoy.
What makes you different from all the other fitness professionals out there?
Our philosophy, our methodologies, our focus. We are Certified Muscle System Specialists through the Exercise Professional Education Company.

Strength training, swimming
What is one piece of advice that you would give other fitness professionals about working with special populations or those who need pre-& postnatal care?
Get educated. Keep pursuing the fundamentals in the content domains of neurophysiology, muscle anatomy and function, physics, energy substrate systems, and scientific methods. Read the research. Find and build relationships with medical providers to help you manage clients with diagnosed disease.

What is one of your favorite memories involving working with someone who has a health challenge or disability?
My first experience in a Nautilus based gym working with an individual who was paraplegic and seeing him exercise. As a young healthy man in my early twenties and just coming out of military service I was involved in sports and lived a very physical lifestyle. I had never seen someone with a disability working out before. He really enjoyed it and it helped him live a higher quality of life. It was then that I decided to dedicate my career to supporting individuals with health challenges and disability to extract the powerful benefits of regular exercise.
What would you like to see change/develop/emerge in the future of healthcare and the fitness industry?
More academic rigor and scholarship. Less cultish mindsets regarding training methods and techniques, more accountability of trainers.
And what are you doing to make this happen?
I have started a company called Exercise Professional Education and am a partner in another Company named Muscle System Consortia where we produce educational programming on these topics and more.
What is your favorite fitness/inspirational/motivational quote?
Responsibility defined
“A unique concept that can only reside and adhere in a single individual. You may share it with others, but your portion is not diminished. You may delegate it, but it is still with you. You may disclaim it, but you cannot divest yourself of it. Unless you can point your finger at the man who is responsible when something goes wrong then you have never had anyone really responsible.” —Admiral Hyman G. Rickover – founder and father of the U.S. Navy Nuclear Program
Anything else we should know about you?
I am totally committed to a career in exercise and fitness and passionate about open discourse and exploration of knowledge and process to improve human health through exercise.
