Name: Robert LoFaso
Location: Mahwah, New Jersey
Website: www.befitandlive.com
Occupation: Fitness Professional; Advanced Certified Fitness Trainer, Movement Specialist, Myofascial Massage, and Static Stretching.

How do you or your business help those with chronic disease/medical conditions or who need pre & postnatal care?

My expertise is exercise, fitness, movement, and static stretching. I work with all types of clients & special populations. I have extensive experience with conditions of all ages. I have worked with clients with heart conditions, Obesity, Stroke, Diabetes, Spinal stenos and Cancer.

What makes you different from all the other fitness professionals out there?

Many things separate my skills as a fitness trainer I hold exercise physiology certifications from S.U.N.Y Rockland Community College, World Instructors Training Schools at Bergen Community College and the Applied function science from the Gray Institute. I train clients of all ages and fitness levels at their homes or at a local gym. During my fitness training career, I have conducted over 17,000 sessions.  I believe in a holistic approach to fitness. I specialize in cardio, resistance, core training, stability, flexibility and functional movement workouts. For over three decades Robert has studied martial arts, holding 1st degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and Aiki Jujitsu. He often uses teachings from his martial arts training in his fitness routines and techniques

What is your favorite activity or class to participate in?

I love working out with the TRX because you use your own body weight and the intensity is increased by the angle of your plank position. It is a tool you can bring anywhere to a client’s home or outside in a park.

What is one piece of advice that you would give other fitness professionals about working with special populations or those who need pre & postnatal care?

Always listen and observe your client needs as the change with time. Always be willing to take on a challenge. Continous learning whether it is from a class or colleague. Keep your client safe in the exercise and environment you are working in.

What type of community activities are you involved in?

I was training my daughter’s volley ball team when she was in high school and working with her coach on fitness exercise to improve their skills.

What is one of your favorite memories involving working with someone who has a health challenge or disability?

I helped transform a 33-year-old woman when she started she weighed 249 pounds and had no energy. Over the course of 2 years she lost over 100 pounds and now exercise 5 times per week.!!

What would you like to see change/develop/emerge in the future of healthcare and the fitness industry?

I would love to see synergy between healthcare and fitness. I would also like to see group health plans for all fitness trainers of all types. I believe this is lacking in our industry and a group health plan would give trainers the option of getting good health care at a lower premium.

And what are you doing to make this happen?

I was corresponded with several of the leaders in the fitness industry about this idea. But nothing has happen to date.

What is your favorite fitness/inspirational/motivational quote?

“Walking is the best possible exercise. Habituate yourself to walk very far.” -Thomas Jefferson

Anything else we should know about you?

I also provide longevity and wellness coaching.  He helps clients alter their eating and exercise behaviors to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. I am a member of IDEA Health & Fitness Association and has achieved the title of Advance Professional Fitness Trainer.
